When I installed SilverFast 8 SE+ for my Epson Perfection V750 scanner, it overwrote the SilverFast 8 Ai Studio software for my Nikon Super CoolScan 8000 scanner, rendering it useless! Can two different scanners be supported at the same time? If so, how do I install the two separate versions of SilverFast that I need to use both of my scanners? . SilverFast 8.8 - History Feature. SilverFast 8.5 - Selective Color Correction SCC. SilverFast 8.5 - NegaFix The OpticFilm 8200i Ai Film Scanner from Plustek converts all your 35mm negatives and mounted slides into digital files you can edit and view on the computer.
The scanner uses a high resolution 7200dpi sensor with 48-bit color depth to capture all the detail from your originals. The scanner's built-in infrared channel provides dust and scratch removal.
Additionally, the included IT 8 calibration slide ensures accurate color results the first time, reducing the need for repeated scans or extensive post processing color correction. The included SilverFast 8 works together with the scanner to improve your workflow and ensure proper results the first time. This updated version features an improved user interface and provides an advanced preview option that lets you see the results of adjustments beforehand. In addition to SilverFast, the scanner comes with Presto PageManager 7.23. SilverFast Ai Studio 8 SilverFast is a professional-grade scan software. Rated 5 out of 5 by Lou from An Awesome Scanner at a GREAT Price!
I have owned several photo scanners, including Nikon, over the years. This is by far the best of them all. It is fast for what I do with it, large files - 37mb TIFF and 350mb RAW files. The quality of the output is sharp, clean clear and the colors jump out at you.As others have mentioned, the SilverFast software is unwieldly to me. I struggled with it for 4 days before I gave up. Way to confusing and not at all intuitive. Be ready to spend another $ or $ for VueScan Professional, which blows the doors off of SilverFast.
With VueScan it is now the complete package and I can ask for nothing more in a slide/negative scanner!!! Rated 4 out of 5 by tgarlo01 from Hardware works great software so so Getting great results from old negatives. Not fast but pretty accurate scans. For the price can't fault the hardware, would be nice to have auto feed but that would drive the price up. The supplied software on the other hand is buggy and finicky. Makes me unplug other scanners and cameras before it will find the film scanner. After downloading the updated software it was a lot less prone to crashing but still finicky to get started.
Interface is a bit complicated but if you have used RAW converters for digital cameras you will get through it. 5 stars for the hardware 3 stars for the software hence the 4 star average. Rated 4 out of 5 by Ashley from White balance is inconsistent This is a nice scanner but the software isn't perfect. I can never get consistent color. The white balance comes out different everytime, even with the settings they have. It is nice to have if you don't want to send your old photos to a lab to get scanned but if you are currently using film, I recommend sending your film to a lab to be processed and scanned.
I also had problems with the software taking FOREVER with each click! It was SilverSlow!
I contacted support and they had me switch the internal-Monitor setting in the preferences' CMS tab to none. And that fixed it. It now runs pretty fast but the color thing is just annoying! Rated 5 out of 5 by Pawneepilot from Yes I like it I have purchased several slide scanners, but this one (recommended by B&H sales rep) is the best one I've owned. The model 8200ai comes with the full Silver Fast 8 software suite which, when installed and registered, offered a free upgrade to version 8.8.
I had some difficulty installing the upgrade (driver problem) and a call to Silver Fast was answered by a real person on the first ring. She was abled to diagnose and fix the problem. The scanner provide beautiful high resolutions scans. The infra-red scan removes virtually all dust and marks - it's truly amazing. I do all my touch up work in Photoshop, so I haven't really tapped the potential of the software, which is also amazing.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Dolma from the only slide scanner that works for me As a curator of archival stereo slides I have found that the OpticFilm 8200i AI works well with a few small adjustments to the slide template. Using my Foredom flexible shaft tool I cut out two of the plastic 'bars' that hold 2x2 slides to make room for a longer stereo slide. I added a narrow bar of clear plastic to make a nice tight fit for the slide, which snaps in place. Being able to manually set the slide in position makes finding the right setting for the smaller size film, easy. Actually I marked it with nail polish so I don't have to guess. As far as technical stuff I don't feel qualified to say anything except it really works for me with slides dating back to 1954.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Mr. Hippo from Does what it supposed to do well Great for scanning slides and negatives. Resolution and clarity is much better than the several years old scanner it replaced. I am using the included Silverfish software. I have been using the Silverfish software for years so there was a learning curve that took only minutes. Downside: although slides can be loaded 4 at a time in the slide holder or 6 frames in the negative holder, each scan is done one at a time. Upside: large window for the prescan image which helps get the scan right the first time.
Post scan editing in photoshop is not needed. Great detail provided in images. Multi scan capability which improves overall scan results. Color calibration was quick and easy. Rated 4 out of 5 by jbphoto808 from The clear choice for slide scanners If you're not going to spend tens of thousands for a very high end scanner, this is your obvious choice for quality scans.
Packaged with Silverfast software, this is a complete solution for anyone facing digitizing their slides, as I was. It sets up easily, offers sharpening, dust removal, multi pass dynamic range increase and produces good, quality scans. If I have a complaint its with the Silverfast software manual being less than detailed in terms of its information. With a bit of trial and error it becomes easy to use, but initially the learning curve is steep. I'd prefer more and better info from them, but overall you will be happy with what you get out of this product once you put some time in. Rated 4 out of 5 by Neil from Excellent scanner for the price The quality of scans is a big leap from flatbed scanners such as the Epson 700. The film and slide holders are sturdy and hold film flat.
SilverFast has an odd, complicated interface but can extract excellent detail from originals. The scanner also works with ViewScan. You can get the less expensive 8200i SE, but you don't get the IT8 calibration slide. Color calibrating the scanner produced an immediate improvement in color accuracy.

The only drawback is that it scans 1 frame at a time, and the carrier must be manually advanced to the next frame. I'd recommend getting a set of extra carriers so you can have a second carrier ready when the first one finishes.
